make it yourself : dry shampoo

If you have ever bought dry shampoo, have you ever wondered what was the white powder you had to brush out? Chances are it is talc or corn starch so I decided to save myself some $$ and make my own for free! I googled around and got ideas from many places to perfect my uber simple recipe.

My recipe:
* one glass or plastic container
* cornstarch {only a few table spoons}
* essential oils {a list of good ones for hair is here}

I put about 2 tablespoons of cornstarch in my container and added several drops of my essential oils, I used chamomile, lime and lavender. Mix up the cornstarch so it is not clumpy from the oils and let sit for 24hrs to let it absorb the oils. You may need to break up any chunks when you go to use it.

How to use:
I went all fancy and pulled my hair up, and with an old blush brush a applied a coat of corn starch to my roots and worked it in. With a fine tooth comb I brushed the powder into my roots and let sit for a few seconds. To remove to powder you can rub with a towel first and then the most genius tip ever; get your blow dryer out and blow away the let over powder. This totally works!

Cornstarch is white, white so this may not work on very dark hair, my hair is medium brown and nobody asked what I had done to my hair so one would assume there was no visible powder left in my hair...For a quick touch up just to go the store and run a few errands I recommend trying it, it will get rid of the dreaded oily sheen and it makes you hair smell fantastic for many hours.
