macaron vs macaron

To much glee I recently came across a new presidents choice offering at superstore, MACARONS! now I am sure these are limited edition only for V-day but I certainly made sure to stock up on a few boxes even though I had literally the day before purchased some from the french way. Here is how they compare:

presdents choice: $7.99 for a dozen
  • assorted box of chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and coffee!!
  • Vanilla may be my favorite lots of flavour! Coffee is good but not strong enough for me. The Chocolate is really good as well and strawberry is gorgeous and jam filled.
  • tiny tiny, it doesn't look like in the pic but it is quite a bit smaller than the other one
  • the packaging is great they hold their shape quite well in the freezer

the french way: $1.25 a cookie (don't do the math for a dozen it is a splurge I tell you)
  • daily flavors are available (I got orange and blueberry)
  • quite a nice size, two usually satisfy a craving.
  • tricky to freeze when you get home. Mine got squished and broke quite a bit:(
Overall I love that the french way cafe is offering them on a more regular basis macarons were really hard to find in winnipeg up until now. For the price and convenience I am quite pleased with the presidents choice version I hope they are added to the permanent line as I will buy them for sure!

  2. I've been meaning to buy the PC ones to try them out, good to know it's worth it!! I just recently bought some from Frenchway and they were delicious! I was sad at how fast they dried out on the counter, but that just means I have to eat them faster next time ;)

  3. @heidi-and-seek the french way macarons are 100% more fresh tasting than the PC ones they are kinda dry but the fact that they can be defrosted and eaten in 2 minutes makes it worth a box of two for the freezer!
